Calculation of load on Column
For the calculation of load on column we should find the different types of loads
- Self weight of column x number of floors
- Self weight of beam per running meters
- Load of slab ( Dead load, Live load, Self load)
- Load of wall per running meters
Self weight or density of concrete = 2400 kg/m3
Self weight or density of reinforced concrete = 2500 kg/m3
Self weight or density of steel = 7850 kg/m3
Self weight of wall = 2000 kg/m3
Data
Duplex = 300 mm x 300 mm (.300 m x .300 m)
Height of column = 3.2 m
Type of concrete = M20
Quantity of steel = 1%
Size of beam = 230 mm x 450 mm
Length of beam = 2 m
Steel use in beam = 2%
Size of slab = 1 m x 1 m x .125 m
Size of slab = 150 mm x 1 m x 4 m
Solution
Self weight of Column = v of column x density
V = L x W x H
= .300 x .300 x 3.2
= .288 m3
Self weight of column = .288 x 2400
= 691 kg
Steel weight = 1% x v x density
= 1 x .288 x 7850
= 100
= 22.6 kg
Total weight = 691+22.6 = 713.6 kg = 7 KN
This is the total weight of 1 floor you can multiply it with the Numbers of floor that you have.
Self weight of Beam = v of beam x density
V = .230 x .450 x 2 = .207 m3
Self weight of beam = .207 x 2400
= 496.8 kg
Steel weight in beam = 2%
= 2 x .207 x 7850
100
= 43 kg
Total weight = 496.8 + 43 =540 kg almost 5.29 KN/m3
Weight of Slab = v of slab x density
v = 1 x 1 x .125 = .125 m3
Weight of slab = .125 x 2500 ( reinforced concrete )
= 312.5 kg almost 3.06 KN
Finishing load = 1 KN/m3
Live load = 2 KN/m3
Total load = 3.06 + 2 + 1 = 6.06 KN/m3
Weight or Load of wall = v of wall x density
v = .150 x 1 x 4 = .6 m3
weight of wall = .6 x 2000
= 1200 kg/m = 11.768 KN/m3
Total weight = 7 + 5.29 + 6.06 + 11.768 = 30.118 KN
For safety factor
For safety factor we add 1.5 times more in total weight
1.5 x 30.118 = 45.177 KN
