Health and safety is the most important aspect of the site in any field of the life but when we talk about the engineering work it become more essential. By adopting the heath and safety we can prevent the major damages and dangerous hazard. In this subject we write about some basic thing  and kind of problem facing to avoid the health and safety.

What is JSA ?

The use of job safety analysis are following
  • Watch the job being done
  • Breaking the job down into steps
  • Describe the hazard in each srep of task
  • Identify the desired control measures
  • Implement these counter measures in the job execution

Health

The absence of disease e.g the asbestos creates a health risk because if you inhale asbestos dust you may contract lung cancer.

Safety

The absence of risk of serious personal injury e.g walking under a load suspended from a crane during a lifting operation is not safe.

Risk

The likelihood that a hazard will cause harm in combination with the severity of injury, damage or loss that might occur.

Why an organization should manage health and safety ?

An organization should manage health and safety because of their moral, social and economical reasons.

What is Work Permit ?

What is insured and uninsured cost with their examples ?

It thing which have taken the insurance policy to avoid loss are insured cost but you can not avail the insurance policy for all the thing those other are uninsured cost.
Insured cost
  • Damage of equipment and building
  • Damage of plant
  • Medical cost
  • Compensation paid
  • Legal cost
Uninsured cost
  • Production delays or down time
  • Loss of raw material due to accident
  • Loss of time due to investigation
  • Loss of reputation
  • Sick pay for injured workers
  • Overtime to make up for lost production
  • Hiring new workers and trained them

What are direct and indirect costs with examples ?

Direct costs
The measure able cost arising directly from the accident are direct costs

For example

  • Lost of damage product.
  • First aid treatment.
  • Worker sick pay.
  • Lost of production time while dealing with injury.
  • Fines in the criminal court.
  • Compensation payed to the victim.
  • Repair or replacement of the equipment or structures

Indirect cost

Those which arise indirectly as a consequence of the event.

Define these Technical Terms

Policy, Organizing, Planning and Implementation, Evaluation, Action for improvement, Audit, Continual Improvement

Policy

A clear statement has to be made to establish health and safety as a commitment of management at all level of the organization but particularly at the top.

Organizing

A framework of roles and responsible for health and safety must be created within the organization, from senior management  down to the shop floor, including the appointment of specialist staff.

Planning and implementing

Detailed arrangement of health and safety. Central to this idea is the concept of risk assessment and the identification and implementation of safe systems of work and protective measures.

Evaluation

Methods must be devised to monitor and review the effectiveness of the arrangements put into place. This might be done reactively e.g. by reviewing accident and ill health statics or actively e.g. by reviewing inspection report
